As I mentioned in a previous post, I had already been to Hong Kong, what I did not do was crossing the border all the way to China. This time we did the classic leisure visits to the city: Chi Lin Nunnery, Giant Buddha, Victoria Peak, Garden of Stars (Avenue of Stars is under construction now), Ladies Market, Night Market, Admiralty and Downtown. We were staying at the Chunking Mansions, that one building with tiny rooms for a decent price at the very centre of the city (Tsim Sha Tsui), which is totally fine if you are good at tolerating people trying to sell you hashish and fake Rolex.

Then, after that, the interesting part: crossing to China with the MTR!! We simply took the MTR all the way to Lok Ma Chau, where you don’t even need to exit the building to cross borders. There’s a huge corridor that sends you to immigration and, after scanning all your belongings, you are good to stand a line to wait for the approval (or not). If you got your China visa in advance, you can go to the “special line” which is the one for pregnant ladies, disabled people, and visitors with an invitation (bingo!).

After crossing that, you will be in Shenzhen, China. You can do whatever you want there or just take the subway, which is just there waiting for you to take it!

Como ya mencioné en otro post anterior, ya estuve en Hong Kong, lo que no hice nunca fue cruzar a China desde allí. Esta vez, lo hice! Y también visité lo más clásico de Hong Kong: Chi Lin Nunnery, Giant Buddha, Victoria Peak, Garden of Stars (el paseo estaba de obras), Ladies Market, Night Market, Admiralty y Downtown. Todo esto mientas nos hospedábamos en las Chunking Mansions, ese edificio enorme con habitaciones enanas en el medio de la ciudad (Tsim Sha Tsui), lo cual es perfecto si no te molesta que te estén ofreciendo hachís y Rolex falsos cada vez que entras al edificio.

Después de nuestra estancia en Hong Kong, viene la parte interesante: cruzar la frontera a China desde el metro. Simplemente tomamos el MTR hasta Lok Ma Chau, donde no tienes ni que salir del edificio para cruzar la frontera. Una vez sales del metro hay un pasillo enorme que lleva a inmigración y, después de escanear todo lo que llevas contigo, puedes acceder a la cola y esperar a que te permitan el paso o te lo nieguen. Si pediste tu visado por adelantado, puedes ir a la cola “special line”, que es para visitantes con invitación (tú).

Después de cruzar inmigración, estarás en Shenzhen, China. Puedes quedarte allí o ir donde quieras desde allí ya que en el mismo edificio empieza la línea de metro de Shenzhen.
