Probably one of the best tours I have done ever. We spent 10 days in Mongolia, of which we chose to spend 6 in a tour through the Gobi Desert. We booked the tour with Sunpath Mongolia and we went to the following places:
Day 1
Mandalgobi, Luus, Khuld (White Stupa)
Day 2
Tsogt ovoo, Dalanzadgad (Glacier)
Day 3
Bayandalai (Dunes and Camel riding)
Day 4
Bulgan, Mandal ovoo, Salkhan ovoo (Flaming Cliff, Onggiin Monastery)
Day 5
Rashaant, Erdenesant, Lun, Atar (Horse Riding and Local Family)
The tour costed us USD360 per person and it included all the meals, stays and entrance fees. It was completely worth it and I would recommend the following: bring toilet paper, sunscreen, wet wipes, your own music, power bank and a good camera. If you are very sensitive to smells or to use questionable toilets, think twice, because you will use smelly latrines or the hills to do your business and the family gers will smell like fermented milk.
Every time you enter a family ger, you will be offered camel or goat milk with tea and a pinch of salt and you should at least, drink a bit to be polite (these tours are vegetarian friendly). We went in mid April and it was perfect (no tourists and no extreme weather conditions). Nights were a bit crazy as temperatures will drop up to -10 C at around 5am, but families will usually come to your ger at 6am to light up the heater/fire place (which by the way are fed with camel, goat or horse shit).
