Between the days of the Gobi Desert tour, we spent almost 4 days in Ulan Bator (or Ulaanbaataar). The first days we walked around the city, went to see the Chingiis Khan statue, a monastery in the city and had some western food for a good price. After the Gobi Desert, of course, we enjoyed the wonderful showers and comfort of our hostel (Zaya’s) and had some delicious meals to compensate for the ger weak points.
The day after, we went to the Winter Palace and enjoyed te city. also we prepared ourselves for the Trans Siberian, so we went to the train station and got some very needed answers. Our last full day in Ulan Bator, we went on a day trip to Terelj, the famous national park with the very popular equestrian Chingiis Khan statue and its museum (kind of interesting if you are into the empire thing, but the content in it doesn’t take more than 1 hour to be seen). Besides that, many treks can be done, even camping in the park is possible! We also visited a beautiful monastery on top of a hill in the park. All this was provided from our hostel, which helped us get a very good price (70USD) for a 6 seater car which we shared with 3 more people, so we payed 14USD for a full day trip (including return). The trip there is highly recommended, but you can also spend a few days there and take the public bus, but be careful, because they depart from Ulan Bator every day at around 4pm, so you should spend at least a night there and they leave from Terelj at 9am, so the smartest thing to do would be to sleep there 2 nights.
