These were our summer holidays for 2018 and we couldn’t be any happier about them. We spent 10 days in Croatia and we did the following route:
- Landed in Split
- Rented a car and drove all the way to Plitvice
- Drove back to Split and took a ferry to Bol (Brac)
- Ferry from Brac to Hvar
- Ferry from Hvar to Korcula
- Ferry from Korcula to Dubrovnik
- Plane back home from Dubrovnik
We did this trip with our friends and it was definitely one of the trips where we laughed the most, relaxed a bit and got very paranoid about bees.
Day 1: Split, Trogir and Plitvice.
We rented a car from the airport without booking in advance because we knew our flight might be delayed and we didn’t want to gamble it. It cost us approximately 100€ for one whole day. We drove from Split to Trogir, had breakfast and then we drove all the way to Plitvice from there. The national park is amazing, we had never seen nature like that before, although the sad part is that it’s forbidden to swim in those crystal clear waters. It also makes sense, because tourists would surely destroy it. We were surprised that food was very cheap and portions were so generous in the Plitvice area. As there are basically not many hotels around, you can stay in an apartment, it’s a very common practice across Croatia (although you should book it previously just to be safe).

Day 2: Ferry to Brac
After dropping off the car, we took a ferry that took approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to Brac and a bus from Brac to Bol, where we stayed. On the first day, we had a lot of rest, ate as much as we could and went to the beach for a short while.

Day 3: Bol
Full day in Zlatni Rat Beach. We booked 2 longchairs and 1 parasol at 250 kunas for the whole day, so we could go have lunch at our apartment and enjoy the day without having to worry about losing our spot. The beach is usually very crowded, so it’s not all that magical. However, fortunately the whole coastline of Bol has available spots which are more isolated and not crowded at all where you can lay down for a sunbath.

Day 4: Bol
We went to a quieter beach in the morning and then we went diving in the afternoon. The highlight of the day weren’t the fish we saw underwater but the ones we saw on our way to the diving spot. A few dolphins followed us! We couldn’t get good photos, so you would have to trust us on this one.

Day 5: Hvar
In the morning we took a ferry to Hvar, which is probably the most town-like island among all the ones we visited. It has a beautiful old town area, where streets are charming and the fortress remains somewhat like in the old times.

Day 6: Pakleni Islands
On our last day, we booked a small speedboat for 500kuna for the day. Quite an experience as none of us had sailed a speedboat before. We had access to many hidden beaches in the small Pakleni islands around Hvar and the waters were just so transparent! We loved it, although we almost got sunburns!

Day 7: Korcula
Korcula is probably the most expensive place we have been in the whole trip. Having dinner in the area could cost more than 15€ per person, so we had all of our meals at the apartment. Beaches around Korcula were also very isolated and the waters were amazing.

Day 8: Korcula
The weather predicted rains, so we walked around the old town, where allegedly Marco Polo was born. Its a beautiful town up on a hill. The views of the surrounding areas are amazing from Korcula, you can see very high mountains near the sea!

Day 9: Dubrovnik
After almost 2 hours on a ferry, we arrived in Dubrovnik at around 12:00, so we had lunch (we managed to find a pizza restaurant with gluten-free pizzas!). We spent the afternoon walking around the city wall. It’s a very nice thing to do, but remember to bring your European Youth Pass (if you have it) in order to get discounts.

Day 10: Dubrovnik
We wanted to take pictures without crowds at the steps of Game of Throne’s Cersei “walk of shame”, so we woke up at 6:00. And boy were we alone! The lighting was good and we managed to take as many pictures as we wanted. We also took a small walk around the town and it was worth it. Later on, after a tiny morning nap, we went to recreate as many GoT scenes as we could and the results were quite good!

I am leaving below the video of our trip, it shows mostly the fun part, not as much as the beautiful spots, but it definitely recreates the memories.
